Librarians and information professionals face unprecedented challenges as the environment in which they operate is buffeted by dynamic forces that threaten to fundamentally change forever the way they work.
Financial restrictions, political uncertainties and accelerating changes in technology have combined in a perfect storm. This requires a robust and dynamic response if the unique role of librarians and information professionals is to be recognised, and given prominence and respect in a fast changing landscape.
At CILIP’s well-established and highly-regarded Umbrella 2011 event, hundreds of practitioners from its Special Interest Groups will gather to discuss and debate the key issues in a series of 36 specialist workshops involving more than 80 speakers. These will be complemented by two key plenary sessions which include the presentation of CILIP’s prestigious Libraries Change Lives Award 2011.
In 2009 Umbrella was rated 95% Good to Excellent by 750 attendees, who also took advantage of a major supporting exhibition, Poster Sessions, and an attractive social programme that encouraged extensive networking.
Umbrella’s winning formula
Umbrella will stick to this winning formula in 2011, with two full days of activity so delegates need less time away from work. Once again the event will be presented mid-week so delegates do not have to give up a weekend, and the exhibition will be open on both days for all refreshment breaks.
Director of Studies for 2011 is former CILIP President Bruce Madge, and the programme is being developed in cooperation with representatives from more than 20 of CILIP’s Special Interest Groups.
Sponsorship and exhibition opportunities
Umbrella provides an unmatched opportunity for suppliers of products, services, software and systems to meet the library community over two days of intensive activity when delegates are receptive to learning about new technologies and new opportunities. A full range of sponsorships is available and a 50-stand exhibition will support the event.
