Amnesty International UK is a national section of Amnesty International, a worldwide human rights group with sections in 53 countries, and a campaigning presence in 100. Amnesty works to raise awareness of human rights, and to highlight specific cases of human-rights abuse. It operates a policy of strict impartiality and independence, with members unable to become involved in cases in their own country. In the UK, Amnesty has over 260,000 members.
