The Legalise Cannabis Alliance was formed as the Norwich-based CLCIA (Campaign to Legalise Cannabis International Association). It participates in the electoral process to promote the issue of legalisation of the drug. The current name was adopted in 1999, when the Alliance registered as an official political party. It fielded 13 candidates in the 2001 general election, all of whom lost their deposits. Source: Dango database of archives of non-governmental organisations at http://www.dango.bham.ac.uk/
